Our grants for Welfare and Rights support 145 organisations working with some of India’s most vulnerable communities
These communities include Dalits and Adivasis, De-notified and Nomadic Tribes, landless households, traditional fisherfolk, and migrant labourers.
A significant part of this work focuses on helping people access basic identity documents, government schemes, and public services. Partners support individuals and households in obtaining or resolving issues related to Aadhaar, voter IDs, and certificates for caste, community, income, birth, age, and address. They also help communities access social security and welfare schemes, including pensions, ration, VB-GRAM-G, housing, health coverage, maternity benefits, and scholarships.

Partners use a combination of awareness-building, application support, and assistance with grievance redressal to help people navigate these systems. They also work to strengthen the delivery of services by setting up facilitation centres and building the capacity of government functionaries, community leaders, and elected representatives involved in delivering them.
Another area of work focuses on strengthening collectives and community leaders. Our partners provide training, technical support, and exposure visits to help issue-based and identity-based collectives, as well as local leaders and elected representatives, understand and respond to issues affecting their communities. This includes addressing concerns related to basic infrastructure, delivery of public services, access to government funds and schemes, social issues, and local governance.
